Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve had a fantastic week. The last week of our summer break was good, but I can’t believe it was the last week already. I know I say that every year, but how does the summer slip by so blindingly fast?

The thing I’m most proud of this week is that I started walking again. I had lost so much weight, then…

I don’t know what. It happened gradually, but I quit working out, quit eating right, and gained most of it back. I’ve tried to get back to a fitter lifestyle a time or two, but haven’t been able to make it stick. When I started feeling those old aches and pains again – the ones I know are weight-related and not age-related – I decided it was time to get serious.

Yeah, it’s blurry, but we were walking.

On Wednesday, Brian bought me an early anniversary present – a Nike Apple watch. And, on Thursday, I did what I said I’d do. I got up, took Belle, and went for a walk. My initial goal is 30 minutes a day, at least 4 or 5 days a week.

I’m going to add to that making better food choices and drinking more water and less – oh, it hurts to say it – less sweet tea.

Our last bit of curriculum for the year (I mean, you know, maybe. I can’t promise I won’t add anything during the year.) arrived this week, so we’re good to go. We’re starting Monday. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again (and probably again and again throughout the school year): It’s weird being down to one student.

Last week, I ordered myself a lap desk to use when I’m hanging out with Sophie, our ferret. I usually spend a couple of hours each morning in the room where we keep her, working and letting her play since all the dogs and cats haven’t yet adjusted to having a ferret.

I love this lap desk! I get so much more done when I have room for my mouse and a level spot for my laptop. I may share it with Megan for when she does her school work, but she’ll have to be nice. {grin}

Now, I’m off to enjoy my last weekend of summer break. I hope y’all have a great one!

  1. I had said we would start last week but then we really looked at the calendar and so Wednesday coming up is day one. Grandma has the kids this weekend which is good because I have to put all the stuff away on our school cart so it’s ready.

    Yesterday my 7yo begged for school to start so we could do spelling lol

  2. First of all, this is not a sales plug of anything, just my own opinion! Have you heard about Bright Line Eating? It’s a lifestyle choice based on the science behind why we can’t keep the weight off. It’s very interesting. It’s written by Susan Pierce Thompson. Of course, she has an expensive way to use her program that includes phone calls from your own personal support coach, but you can also do it without spending any money except for the book. And there is a whole community of support on Instagram that is free, too!

  3. You can make tea and sweeten it with stevia. I like the Trim Healthy Mama brand. Stevia is a natural sweetener – I have grown it in my yard and used it in tea! It does not impact blood sugar or weight gain. Just use a teeny bit (like 1/32 tsp)!

    1. I’ve tried that before. I can’t do it. Yuck. 🙂 I will work on gradually reducing the amount of sugar in my tea, though. I did that before and eventually got it low enough that I’d have to ask for a little unsweet in my sweet tea when I went to Chick-fil-A because it was too sweet otherwise. I’m not there right now. lol

  4. Hi Kris! I’m with ya on the whole walking and the one student account! I’ve been trying to get healthier this year, that whole pain thing rings a bell! And having one student… I’m excited and a bit sad. Your Marine Biology looks fun! We are doing Astronomy but I’m not gonna lie, I wish we were doing Marine Biology!! 😉 We start on the 27th with a sort of soft-set day to set up supplies on the 24th.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  5. I just took my brother for his pre-gastric bypass surgery appointment and i realize I do NOT want to end up having to do that. Making some big changes here too, and walking is definitely going on the list to do more.

    1. We can do it! I feel good about the changes I’ve made in the last few days. I really feel like I did the time I was so successful, unlike the last few false starts when my heart wasn’t really in it for whatever reason.
