Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope all of you in the U.S. had a safe and happy 4th of July. Ours was very low-key, which, as I’m sure you know, was just fine with me. Brian was off, so we grilled some steaks and hung out around the house.

Poor Belle was on sedatives every night from Sunday when the neighbors set off what we were told was $6,000 worth of fireworks (Yes, you read that right. Six thousand dollars.) until Wednesday night. We’ll have to see how the weekend goes. If people have leftover fireworks, she may get another dose or two.

I didn’t see any of $6,000 worth of fireworks. I was sitting in the back bedroom with Belle, who had squeezed herself under the bed, trying to calm her down. She did better than last year, thanks to sedatives, but she was still terrified. She stayed under the bed until midnight or so.

Megan’s cat, Sassy, wasn’t impressed either. She hid behind the washer and dryer. All the other creatures were either in the bedroom with me or in the hallway right outside the door, so Belle and Sassy had plenty of emotional support.

Each night, from Sunday through Wednesday, I got to get up to take Belle out at 3 or 4 in the morning, once she decided that the coast was clear and she could venture outside long enough to pee. I couldn’t help but think back to when the kids were babies and I was never guaranteed an uninterrupted night’s sleep.

I kind of didn’t miss that part.

It’s funny to me that Belle is the biggest dog in the house and is the only one who is scared of fireworks. But she’s not afraid of the vacuum and the other dogs are. It’s weird the things that freak certain dogs out.

As sad as it is, those are pretty much the highlights of my week. I guess in a couple more weeks I’ll start thinking about and planning for school. Although I’m not in a hurry because I’m completely enjoying my summer, I am looking forward to the year. We’ve got a lot of new curriculum that we’re really excited about. I need to update my curriculum page so you can see what all we’ll be using.

For now, I’m off to enjoy my weekend. I hope yours is fantastic!

  1. I’d love to see what you are using for next year, your past posts have given me lots of options to investigate.

    1. I’ll have to work on updating our curriculum page because I’m really excited about what we’ll be using in the upcoming year.

  2. Six Thousand dollars worth of fireworks! That is ridiculous. Your poor pets and veterans that live in your neighborhood. I hope you have a peaceful weekend.
    Blessings, Dawn

  3. This is the second week I’ve tried to link, but I get a warning that I have to verify my email. I’m entering my legitimate and correct address, but I never get one from this site, and my links don’t go through.

    1. I’m sorry that you’re having trouble. The Inlinz site is doing some upgrades and going through beta testing. I’ve just about decided that the beta testing is way too buggy for me. {sigh} If you’ll send me your link, I’ll see if I can add it manually.
