Weekly Wrap-Up

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope you’ve all had an amazing week. Mine has been good and surprisingly productive for the most part. That’s always nice.

So, last weekend we had all the bridal showers. One was given by my mom and sister, the other by Brianna and Andrew’s church. Andrew’s mom and I joked that we were just going to go shopping at Andrew’s apartment because they got some nice stuff.

It’s a surreal feeling watching your child prepare to start managing her own home. Brian and I often joke that we share one brain because we often think or say the same thing at the same time. It happened at one of Brianna’s showers this weekend.

It was something simple. She held up a cutlery set that she received and I thought, “Wow. Those are the forks that my baby, her husband, and their family are going to be using for the next however many years.”

I heard Brian beside me quietly say, “Wow.” I looked at him and we both knew we’d just had the same thought.

Then there was the shower at my mom’s house. First, I gave Brianna the Christmas ornaments that I’ve been secretly collecting since the year she was born. Each one from the early years represents something she was into that year. Later, I switched to a series of ornaments that she likes. {sniff}

Then, one of my friends gave her this:

It looks innocent enough, right? It was. Until the friend said it was for our weekly family dinners. I was fighting waterworks, y’all.

With the two showers (and one of them being out of town), I got nothing done over the weekend. That meant Monday was a Saturday/Monday combo day but not the good parts of Saturday. The laundry, housecleaning, and dishes part of Saturday.

Somehow, I managed to get all that caught up and still get my online work done. I couldn’t even tell you how I accomplished that. It was nothing short of a small miracle.

Tuesday, Brian and I finally got to go see Black Panther with some friends. It was excellent! They showed previews for Avengers: Infinity War, which was supposed to be out May 16. I had already determined to go see it on opening night.

Then, Wednesday night, I saw a commercial that said the release date is April 27. Y’all. That is the night of the wedding rehearsal. {gasp} I briefly toyed with the idea of seeing if popcorn and Coke would fly for the rehearsal dinner. Then, I told Brian seeing the movie will have to be the relaxing thing we do the day after the wedding.

Wednesday was another busy day. Megan had two doctor’s appointments and we met Brianna for lunch.  It’s like she’s already moved out. She’s been staying with a friend more than she’s been at home. They’ve been working on centerpieces for the tables at the reception.

Today, I think I’m going to refuse to leave the house. Oh, except I have to take Megan to work at some point, but other than that I think I’m committed to being a hermit today.

Have a great weekend, friends!

  1. Wow! What exciting times y’all are having! That ornament collection is brilliant. Wish I’d seen that idea 11 years ago. What a treasure that will be. Looks like good things are happening for her, and that’s wonderful; just what you hope to see when a young woman moves out. Congratulations to you all.

  2. I can’t even imagine! So love your ornament idea, especially that you had kept them in boxes and brand spanking new. I have made ornaments out of the children’s clothes each year but they always go straight onto our tree. You had the superior idea!
    You’re going to be a mother-in-law 🙂
I’m really looking forward to seeing all the wedding photos – you’ll need to take lots of tissues

  3. What an exciting time for you and Brianna. I started an ornament collection for my girls when they were babies too!

(i have no idea why my thumbnail always turns out screwy when I link up. Usually I delete it at least once and relink, but just wasn’t feeling it this week.)
